Description of the Painting

An interlocking architecture of soft rectangles — cream, sand, and warm taupe fitted together with the patient precision of a puzzle that has been solved many times and always differently. The lines between the forms are drawn rather than painted, giving the whole composition the quality of a considered sketch, a plan still alive with the thinking that made it. Two small squares of black punctuate the upper register like notes in a score, and at the bottom, a single deep terracotta rectangle arrives with the quiet finality of the last piece placed. The ground is pale and spacious, breathing generously around the central density. This is a painting that rewards the eye that moves slowly — each edge yields a new relationship, each corner a small decision — the accumulated intelligence of a composition that has earned its stillness.
