Description of the Painting
Rectangles fill the canvas like rooms in a floor plan no one ever built — each one slightly different in size, in surface, in the depth of its raised edge, the whole composition resembling a wall of tiles or an architect's model or simply an arrangement that found its logic through the making. The dominant tone is white in all its variations: bright, cream, bone, the white of things left alone to age gently. Against it, a single terracotta passage burns in the upper right like an open window onto warmth, and three black accents punctuate the surface the way full stops end sentences — not to close, but to clarify. This is a painting that lives in the detail: the slight irregularity of each form, the seams between, the fact that nothing here was made by machine. A deeply considered work that wears its restraint like a room wears good furniture — completely, and without effort.
