Description of the Painting
A harbour on a day the sun decided to be generous. Sails of orange, magenta, and gold crowd the water like petals shaken loose from a very large flower, their colours doubling in the teal reflections below. Bunting strings across the quayside, figures move in the easy rhythm of people with nowhere urgent to be, and behind it all, white buildings rise with the quiet pride of a town that has always known how good it has it. In a small rowboat at the centre, two figures drift — unhurried, apart from the noise — as if they have found the one still point inside all this festivity. The sky is summer blue with one generous white cloud that asks for nothing.
