Description of the Painting

Forms that have come loose from their grid and drifted — rectangles and cube-like shapes scattered across a pale ground in varying orientations, as if gravity has been temporarily suspended and the painting caught them mid-float. The palette is warm and earthy: raw sienna, umber, the deep brown of walnut wood, and the black of something very old, all set against cream and white that keep the whole from becoming heavy. Several forms carry a fine speckled border — a detail of unexpected delicacy, like the edge of a stone tile sanded smooth.
