Description of the Painting
Seven rectangles and a great deal of white — and somehow that is enough. Each form sits in its place with the unhurried authority of something that has considered its position and committed to it: charcoal and near-black in the upper left, moving through warm sand and umber to the deep rust that claims the lower right. A vertical and horizontal band of terracotta intersects the canvas like a compass reading, dividing the white into two generous open quarters. The brushwork is loose and directional within each form — visible, unpretentious, the strokes making no attempt to hide the hand that laid them. This is painting at its most resolved and its most honest: no argument, no ambiguity, only the patient discovery of what these particular colours have to say to each other when given room and time enough to say it.
