Description of the Painting

Autumn here is horizontal — not the enclosed intimacy of a forest in colour but the open, breathing expanse of flat land under a wide sky. Gold and amber fields stretch left toward a pale horizon, their warmth undimmed, and on the right a group of trees blazes in deep orange and rust, their bare white trunks threading through the colour like lines of thought. Between them, a narrow river catches the sky and holds it — grey-blue, still, carrying the reflection of everything around it with the quiet faithfulness of still water.
