Description of the Painting

Birch trunks fill the canvas like an exclamation — white verticals pushing through a field of orange and amber that has no interest in being a background, demanding equal attention, equal weight. This is the forest seen from inside and very close, the trunks so numerous they become a rhythm, and the colour between them so intense it becomes almost architectural. At the base, an unexpected surge of teal arrives like cold water — the forest floor or a stream, or simply the one cool note that prevents all that orange from consuming itself. The painting operates in the space between representation and abstraction, where the subject is still legible but the colour has been pushed to its full emotional register.
