Description of the Painting
Sky and sea and sand — and almost nothing else. This painting strips the coastal scene to its three essential elements and finds, in that reduction, an unexpected amplitude. The sky dominates: a generous, active blue populated by clouds that shift between white, peach and blue, one mass tinged with orange where the sun has already passed. Below, a thin band of teal sea holds the horizon with quiet authority, and the beach spreads wide in the foreground — pale sand catching the warm light in loose strokes of gold and ivory. The wet line where the tide reached is a memory of movement on an otherwise still surface. No trees, no rocks, no figures — only the three great horizontal registers of this kind of coast. A painting about openness itself: the particular freedom that comes from standing before a view where everything that presses on a person — all scale, all weight, all boundary — simply ends at the waterline, and what remains is only sky.
