Description of the Painting

A path curves along the lakeshore with the easy confidence of something worn smooth by unhurried footsteps — pale and warm, scattered with orange and violet, it draws the eye forward without insisting. Tall trees stand at the left in olive and amber, presiding over a foreground alive with colour: orange scrub, violet patches, acid yellow-green, all jostling in the generous light of an overcast day that diffuses rather than directs. The lake beyond is a cool band of teal and silver, its surface holding reflections in loose, flickering strokes. Further still, the landscape softens — dark tree masses, pale hills, mountains barely suggested. The sky is wide and restless, a churn of white and grey and yellow that feels as though the weather is deciding something.
