Where the earlier waterfall artwork was anchored in stone and season, this one is made almost entirely of light and air. The falls descend in soft white and teal — not so much rushing as floating, a curtain of water that has lost its weight to the luminous haze surrounding it. Above and to either side, autumn colours scatter freely: orange and yellow and pink and green, applied with the loose abandon of a painter trusting feeling over form, leaves and branches barely distinguishable from the light moving through them. The source of the radiance at the top is never declared — it could be sun through mist, or mist become sun — and that ambiguity is the artwork's greatest quality. Everything here is dissolving into something else: colour into light, form into atmosphere, season into a feeling too diffuse to name. A artwork not of a place but of a state — that particular, brief, wordless clarity that sometimes descends near water, in the presence of falling light.
