Description of the Painting
The path leads toward it but does not arrive — and that is precisely where the painting lives. A geometric structure rises among bare-limbed trees and amber undergrowth, its planes of cream and charcoal assembled like a thought that has not quite finished forming. To the left, a still lake mirrors a sky that cannot decide between grey and light, and beyond it, blue mountains dissolve into cloud as though the world grows softer the further it recedes. The trees are the truest thing here: thin, dark, utterly undecorated, their bare branches scribing the autumn air with the particular honesty of things that have let everything go and are still standing. The warm tones of rust and ochre burn low through the grass and shrubs, the last insistence of a season surrendering. This is a painting about the beauty of thresholds — the path not yet taken, the door not yet opened, the season not yet gone.
