Description of the Painting

The window is open, and the garden has come in to meet the flowers halfway. A cobalt blue vase — round and luminous, the most resolved thing in the composition — sits on a white sill holding a bouquet that has not been arranged so much as gathered: wild, multi-coloured, still carrying the disorder of the meadow. Magenta, violet, hot pink, cream, and red tumble upward in layered brushstrokes that merge with the garden beyond the glass, until it becomes impossible to say where the vase ends and the outside world begins. Fallen petals on the sill add a note of tender impermanence. The teal walls frame everything with a warm depth, and through the window, the garden blazes in green and yellow and sky blue — not a background, but a continuation. This is a painting about thresholds: the beautiful, blurred line between inside and out, between the cultivated and the wild.
