Description of the Painting

Pale steps rise through the centre like a spine, holding the composition together while the village erupts in colour on either side. Red walls, orange facades, a violet and magenta building to the right that makes no apology for itself, terracotta roofs against cobalt sky — chromatic boldness pushed to its absolute limit, yet the palette never collapses into noise. The steps are the key: their cool ivory and lavender provide the quiet axis around which everything else organises itself. Flowering shrubs crowd the lower stairway, and cypress trees rise behind the buildings as always in such villages — dark, vertical, indifferent to the drama below.
