Description of the Painting
Some flowers belong to particular places — sun-bleached walls, terracotta, the specific quality of Mediterranean light. Bougainvillea is one of them, and here it arrives indoors with all that outdoor heat still on it. The blooms cascade from a simple glass cylinder in an unrestrained abundance of orange, coral, magenta, and the deepest hot pink — each petal a broad, confident brushstroke that seems to revel in its own colour. Light falls across the composition from the left, catching the surface of the table, dissolving into the pale lilac of the shadow beneath the vase, and warming the sage-green background into something almost luminous. The glass itself is painted with quiet mastery — transparent, catching light, filled with the dark tangle of stems. This is summer in a room, brought inside and given a vessel, still radiant, still restless, refusing in every brushstroke to be tamed.
