Description of the Painting

White blooms dissolve into a background that is nearly as light as they are — the painting exists in a world of cream, pale gold, sage, and the warm charcoal of a single dark passage in the upper right, all held together by the conviction that restraint, applied consistently, becomes its own kind of abundance. The flowers are barely differentiated from the blocks of colour behind them, the boundary between bloom and atmosphere a matter of degree rather than definition, as if the whole canvas is one continuous surface that has simply decided, here and there, to become a flower.
