Description of the Painting

The harbour holds its breath in the early light. A row of small boats rests against the quay — white hulls flushed with pink and blue, their reflections dissolving in the turquoise water below into something more colour than image. Beyond them, two sailboat masts rise in clean verticals against a sky that cannot decide between peach and mint and the palest gold, where the sun sits just above the horizon like something not yet fully committed to the day. To the right, the village reveals itself in warm ochre, terracotta, and soft pink — buildings that have stood long enough to become part of the landscape. Small figures move along the waterfront, unhurried. This is the hour before the heat arrives, when the Mediterranean is still cool and glassy and the world feels briefly, completely at ease. A painting that asks nothing of the viewer except to be there.
