Description of the Painting
The composition settles like a landscape seen from above — broad horizontal bands of brown and sand occupy the lower register like earth and shadow, while lighter planes of cream and linen rise above them, each rectangle finding its place with the unhurried certainty of things that have always known where they belong. A single black form on the left, rounded at one corner, holds the eye like a stone — solid, unambiguous, the one weight that anchors everything else in its lightness. A small amber stroke near the centre glows like embers, and the whole palette moves from cool white through warm beige to the deep browns of ploughed soil, as if the painting is a cross-section of the earth itself, read from sky to root.
