Description of the Painting

Where the previous city street moved in cool lavenders and remembered whispers, this one blazes. Orange dominates — not the soft amber of autumn but the hard, flat orange of rendered walls in full midday sun, the colour of southern heat and dry air and a sky too bright to look at directly. It is a street caught at the most unforgiving hour, when shadows are short and colour is everything, when buildings stop being backdrop and become the whole story. Teal and turquoise cut through the orange like relief — a strip of sky, a painted door, a tarpaulin — keeping the composition from tipping into pure heat. The road ahead runs pale and bleached toward a luminous vanishing point, narrowing the world into a single corridor of light. No one is visible, yet the street feels inhabited, alert, mid-morning and full of itself. This is the painting of a particular kind of sun — unsubtle, generous, indifferent to comfort — that makes even ordinary streets look like they were built for it.
